The most common mistake when ordering invitations is to under/over buy. If you bought too many invitations a few will end up in the same box in which they came and will never be used. If you ordered too little and if all of the sudden you need 2 more invitations you may end up buying 25 since many companies have minimum reorder quantities.

At Lilian Designs we recommend to spend the time carefully crafting your list. If you feel that you have fairly good list, then simply add 5 more. If you feel that your list is not that complete, we suggest to order 10 to 15 more invitations.

When you think of custom wedding invitations, you probably think a silk box embellished with fabric, ribbons, precious jewels and the like. Or you might envision a sketch artist in London creating a pair of deer prancing on the hillsides to be digitally uploaded and then letter-pressed into the finest of hand made cotton papers. All for a nominal fee. Sound pretty enticing? Perhaps. But we like to think of custom made as something much more simple.

Custom made or a client tailored approach to invitation design simply means flexibility. Limitless possibilities. Your vision is our inspiration. In this way, your vision of a classic ivory stationery with a beautifully designed monogram is just as custom made as the acrylic invitation nestled in a silk box and delivered in hand sewn silk pouches. Changing ink colors to match the exact pantone of your bridesmaids dresses or selecting from hundreds of script fonts is custom made as well. As is creating personalized samples that you can touch and feel before going to print.

The rule of thumb is to mail wedding invitations 6 to 8 weeks prior to the wedding day.  A few circumstances can make this window of time smaller or larger.  For instance, if most guests are from the local area where the wedding is taking place and a Save The Date card was mailed prior, then we suggest the 6 weeks timeframe to mail the invitations.  On the other hand, if a significant number of people are from out of town and the wedding date is on December 31, then we suggest to give your guest more time by mailing the invitations 8 to 10 weeks prior.

It is really an abbreviation for Mr/Mrs/Ms.   Printing Mr/Mrs/Ms.  will be too long, not that easy on the eyes and it will probably clash with the overall design of the response card.  As a result many industry professionals use “M_______”.    At Lilian Design we print our response cards a little clearer by printing: “Mr/Mrs.________”

Obviously the line next to it is for your guests to write in their name so you know who is replying to your invitation.

We are often asked to include a small card within the invitation that instructs the recipient of the invitation to bring a gift or cash.   It is our belief that some traditions shouldn’t be broken and this is one of them.   Gift requests should be handled outside the stationery.   The proper way to handle gift requests is by word of mouth.   As an alternative, it could be mentioned in the couple’s wedding website.
